Wisecrack I am looking forward to it. I am a big fan of the things Mob Psycho has to say about morality, but I don't have the background to pick apart the different threads.
W Jesh mob psycho makes a great point about self improvement and how actively working on improving your weaknesses can really give you a sense of fulfillment rather than just depending on an easy cheat like psychic powers to get by. And how keeping your ego in check can help you be more social
That's part of the aesthetic design of Wisecrack, and modern media in general. Oprah's our friend, Jon Stewart's our friend, Rush Limbaugh is our long-suffering compatriot against the liberal tyranny. It's assumed that humans are a bunch of lonely atomized guilt-ridden sociopathic profit-seekers killing the world and waiting for it to end, so clearly what these people most need are friends to medicate them and help them get through the day. Therefore first the television and then internet shows (modeled on television shows) have a friendly presenter, educating us and looking out for our best interests. Anyone who takes this seriously gets a rude awakening - the "friendliness" is an aesthetic design which has no bearing on actual emotions, which is not the same as saying that the presenter has no emotions, merely that the presentation is NOT based on the actual emotions of the presenter. It's done to increase the popularity of the show, by giving the people what they want, or at least the popular conception of what they want. One could argue that this greatly increases the degree of cynicism in viewers - that they are shown time and time again that the ethics of presentation involve manipulation and deceit - that when you feel resentful, or angry, or sad, you are NOT able to present effectively. If you maintain this emotional position you will simply be replaced by someone able to present the aesthetics of friendliness. So make sure to repress any emotions that hinder your presentation in order to keep being optimal. The argument, the push-back from media organizations, is that it's an existential necessity in a competitive marketplace. Which is to say, friendliness succeeds and animosity fails. It doesn't matter what's real, it matters what works, what succeeds, what raises view-count and makes more money. This allows for the expansion of the media empire and an increase in wealth and power for any corporate and capital backers.
The friendliness as aesthetic design goes well beyond entertainment shows - it's the general approach that modern public figures have with the public, and enough of the public is on-board that they act as policeman for the ideology itself. It's to the point where this might simply be called "culture". Take for example naming conventions for public figures. Jennifer Lopez isn't Jennifer Lopez, she's JLo, what previously would have been a pet name from her most personal acquaintances. Oprah Winfrey is much better known simply as Oprah, as if she's on a first-name basis with the entire world. Modern technology apps encourage this as well. Public figures have Facebook pages, Instagram pages, Twitter accounts with millions of followers, all containing the conceit of *personal access* to this person's thoughts and feelings. It's the technological version of Subway's transparent sandwich preparation - if we can't trust the preparers of food, at least we can see ourselves how it's made. In this kind of world, with everyone watching everyone else, with social capital measured in views, followers, and likes, friendliness is the only tolerated behavior.
Can you list the scientific journals and other sources you're referencing in this video? Something that I really like about wisecrack is your integrity to a philosophers larger body of work when referencing them in the video. I'm a little worried that this new road you guys are going down is going to be all pop science without sources. I disagree with putting a pay wall between your viewers and your works cited. Many, if not most, of the academic journals one might rely on to make videos similar to those of Wisecrack are already behind pay walls. So Wisecrack, a channel that purports to educate and inform, inserts an additional obstacle in the form of a pay wall between its reference list and its audience to incentivize patronage but to also simultaneously obscure its source materials (and, by extension, limit its audience’s already limited access to those materials and to limit the audience’s ability to educate and inform themselves beyond what they glean from Wisecrack’s videos while also placing Wisecrack’s videos an additional remove beyond the scrutiny of their audience). I call bullshit. Even Nerdwriter posts his sources in the doobly-doo. How hard is it to copy and paste that information there and come up with some other bonus materials to incentivize patronage?
Abigail Slaughter no that's stupid, RUclips aren't stopping Wisecrack from listing sources in the description, and I greatly doubt many people are donating just to get that.
I'm very excited for this new idea. Psychological analysis are great, they teach so much, like why in some point you think about killing every single person in the room, I mean nothing more relatable.
I actually really enjoyed this episode. And what you said about having a sense of purpose and/or meaning in life was a bit of a eye-opener for me (who's been struggling with depression for over three years now). The way you speak also makes it easy to listen to you, and you seem to know your stuff. I like you, and hope you keep making more vids like these. Cheers!

Mike Schwartz First, get a very general sense of what you would want to accomplish. Questions like these may help. What do you care about? In what way do you think you can make the world a better place? How would you like to be remembered after you die? What activities excite you? Then, think about what you could be doing in your daily life that aligns with such a purpose. How can you improve yourself to be more suited? Take classes? Practice? Conquer some fear? Change career, hobby, get into volunteer work? Find a way to spend time with those you admire, and see how you can get close to them to learn from them. Gradually, as your insight and experience increase, the path will become clearer. You need to evaluate that from time to time. Always ask if what you're doing is aligned with your goal, and provides enough challenge and satisfaction.

Hey Wisecrack, I'm from Kenya I've been a since 2015 (subbed in 2016) loved the channel, like the new segement and Helen is awesome PS: Could post links to the scientific journals and books you reference and is there a possibility of launching a monthly reading list, kind of like a Wisecrack book club,or do you have that already?
I think you guys should change the tagline of the show from The SCIENCE of *insert topic here* to something else because that branding is already being used over at Game Theory (unless you guys talked it over and what not). When I saw the title of the video I thought that Austin would be on the show. Nothing against the episode at all I love these kind of diving into the science of things!
Hey guys. Judging from your incredible Evangelion video, I think I have a great idea that you all might be able to do justice: Kill la Kill's allegorical references to Buddhism. Some thoughts to get in the right direction: the Shitennō, Nobunaga's ambition and the Honnouji Incident, the Rainbow body, Mount Meru, end-times mythology in Tibetan Buddhism, and most important to the message of the show: the meaning of Dukkha and Nirvana. Thanks guys.
Saitama is like Bojack Horseman. What do you do after you achieve your main goal? Do you try to reach for something bigger, live a simple life, or do toxic stuff that will give you instant gratification? Saitama is good at killing monsters, but he does have challenges that he ignores: he isn't good at academic stuff, depends on Genos for cleaning, like Mob has issues understanding the intentions of other people, has no hobbies besides reading mangas, can be defeated in video games easily, doesn't have friends until he starts working for the Hero Association, ignores potential waifus to have a date with, gets behind on his schedule, doesn't care about making the world a safer place, etc. He could have a sense of purpose if he choose to try something from the list of challenges I made.
@@omit4727 i don’t know about destroying the originality but having a purpose that u don’t really care about isn’t really a purpose. Sure he has a lot to choose from but the only thing that sparks that intensity in his eyes is fighting. So to him, everything else seems boring and meaningless
good to see wisecrack adding new blood, best of luck, you should make a video about the science of time travel across movies, from Primer to Back to the Future.
what a fantastic episode! I really hope to see more like this, because it was really well written and really interesting. Schoening91 But he kinda refuses to broaden his horizons and continues to just focus on finding strong monsters. Man, who says that superhumans can't be relatable?
That's what Mob Psycho 100 is about actually! Mob is the strongest psychic, virtually unbeatable, but instead of pursuing his psychic abilities and centring his life and meaning around that he decides to put his efforts into becoming well-liked, and getting in shape. Since it's by the same creator it's really likely the creator thought the same thing as you and wanted to explore that
If u want to know what happen in season 2, just read the manga. You want spoilers? - - - - - He's still the same. But every city is in major threat because monsters are trying to make people eat "monster cells" so that everyone become monsters. When you become monsters, your strength grow timesfold. There will be one pratagonis character that mimic saitama's passion and refuse to become monster at the same time. He might be the ultimate opponent for saitama in the future. One promising truly strong evil character in the series is monster king. Whom eat other monsters when they refuse to obey him. The manga is really good. You should check it out if u crave more of one punch man series. Have fun!
Should see OPM S2 early 2019, since there's an event in August and Garou's VA was picked. By the way, Murata said S2 would speed through the tournament, which means it'll likely going past it and end with the battle in the woods as the finale. Just imagine how epic that battle will be.
xavi k'han It will change everything. Your perspective, your surroundings, your group of friends. You will totally abandon your comfort zone and do everything on your own. You will have thoughts you never would have had at home. This is especially so if you go to a good-quality city that's pedestrian-oriented. You will discover a thousand new things every day. You will meet new people. You will take public transport and you will walk. You will learn to cook and support yourself. And you are more likely to discover your passion there, since you never have and probably never will discover it at home.
David Ullman Well, I would have agreed with that last point if not for the internet literally allowing people to find their Ikigai at home. I mean just name a RUclipsr, especially the gamer ones. But even then I doubt they stay inside all day. I mean take Markiplier for instance.
David Ullman No, moving is not going to change your life. I thought a change of scenery and surroundings would help my shitty drinking habits. Naturally it didn't. What helped was, y'know, effort and changed habits. Moving is superficial. If you really want to change yourself, begin with yourself.
Great quality vid, I don't mind the new host as long as you keep combining science or philosophy with these popular series/movies/other media and don't downgrade the quality
Kibate Do you know in one punch man universe every being has a limit specifically made for each person and if they go beyond they turn to monsters except for saitama he removed it.
Heres an analogy- Have you ever activated God Mode in a video game? After the initial excitement most people, grow bored and nihilistic with the lack of challenge
This is my first Wisecrack episode. I really like the announcers voices, that mixed with interesting psychological and biological reasoning made this a good first taste of this channel. Here's looking forward to more!
The whole "purpose in life" ideology really reminds me of Stain from My Hero Academia back when he was still a (*SPOILER) hero, which was seen on the spin-off of MHA. P.S: The title of the spin-off is "Vigilante: My Hero Academia Illegals".
I really like the addition of Helen. I think that it would be interesting to watch a video of Helen and Jared together but in opposites sides of an argument in a wisecrak edition style video.
Saitama's only competition is getting to that sale at the supermarket.
and play video games with king

Hey Wisecrack, I'm from Kenya I've been a since 2015 (subbed in 2016) loved the channel, like the new segement and Helen is awesome
PS: Could post links to the scientific journals and books you reference and is there a possibility of launching a monthly reading list, kind of like a Wisecrack book club,or do you have that already?
This channel just keeps on giving! Bless Wisecrack and their whole team for sharing such amazing and insightful videos on RUclips.
More of this! Loved every second and can't stop sharing. OPM is one of my first recommendations to any one trying to get into anime
Wisecrack doing psychology and philosophy. Its a dream come true
I LOVE ONE PUNCH OMG
Should see OPM S2 early 2019, since there's an event in August and the main villain's VA was picked.
Well done first video!!
This new venture by wisecrack is good. Keep them coming.
Great addition to the Wisecrackhead family. You did great Helen I’ll looking for more The Science of in my notifications. Happy weekend y’all
I think you guys should change the tagline of the show from The SCIENCE of *insert topic here* to something else because that branding is already being used over at Game Theory (unless you guys talked it over and what not). When I saw the title of the video I thought that Austin would be on the show. Nothing against the episode at all I love these kind of diving into the science of things!
Jacob Lorenger same here, I was super confused at first
Good call. I'll ask Austin and the Theorists... thanks for the heads-up
Exactly what I thought was going on
Who is Jerid again?
Very good stuff, just what I expect form WiseCrack. (Now can we get back thug notes?)
Helen needs to do more of these! This was wonderful.
I can already tell we're all going to like Helen. Great job on the video!
This was so cool! I would love to see more of this kind of content! Love you Jared, but Helen is pretty awesome~
I like this. Keep doing this.
❤ HELEN ❤
thicc
But that would destroy the originality of saitama
@@omit4727 i don’t know about destroying the originality but having a purpose that u don’t really care about isn’t really a purpose. Sure he has a lot to choose from but the only thing that sparks that intensity in his eyes is fighting. So to him, everything else seems boring and meaningless
I like Helen; she presented evidence to theories. Please bring her back!
Check out screenprism it's her channel
I like her! She seems hip. :D
Kyla Clarp she does seem pretty cool for someone reading a script.
Yeah, I agree :3
Kyla Clarp And tubular as well.
I really like her, I hope we see more of her in the future
Amelia Bee, do you want to see her more often, or more of her?
good to see wisecrack adding new blood, best of luck, you should make a video about the science of time travel across movies, from Primer to Back to the Future.
Helen is a great addition to your team, looking forward to more. Haven't seen enough Sparky Sweets P.H.D. in a while though! Where is that guy?
Helen is a great addition! Well done again Wisecrack
Loved it guys, liked it very much. Helen's ideas and research are a nice addition to the team! :)
Season 2 where are you? Also great job once again Wisecrack!
Should see OPM S2 early 2019, since there's an OPM anime event in August and the main villain's VA was picked.
It wont be done by Madhouse, so unfortunately quality of animation will suffer.
+Gungrave123 Madhouse outsourced most of the animation. They basically just set up the project, gave it a budget, and slapped their name on it.
Its soon because new chapters of the manga (both of them) were on hold these last few months
+Collin Graham Huh? The manga was never on hold, especially not the last few months. The manga has actually been faster the last few months.
do the Philosophy of Psycho Pass PLEEEEAASE
We’re researching it now!

XD
helen sounds like that watchmojo chick lmao
Great job Helen!! Keep them coming!
what a fantastic episode! I really hope to see more like this, because it was really well written and really interesting. As much as I love the philosophical analysis (and I love them a LOT), having also a scientific view on things is amazing. Especially since, as a scientist, we often forget how much philosophy and science were born linked historically.
I knew my kendo sensei was right all along. This is why you shouldn't become the very best than no one ever was, but still try to be
Andres Arancio That could explain why Ash Ketchum and his pokemon does a groundhog day after every series arc. 🤔
omg im so glad i watched this today and i wish i had future vision so i couldve seen it sooner! amazing!
YESSS!! More! Love it! ♥
I like it, well done Helen you had the right amount of voice inflection a good pace and one point with interesting info for the topic.
welcome to wisecrack i'll always look forward to you and Jared like i do for most wisecrack
Welcome to the team Helen! Loved the video, keep it up 👍
Seitama is only the strongest fighter. He sucks at video games and probably a trillion other things. If he wants meaning he has plenty to choose from
That's exactly what he does in the manga. He gets thrashed by King and vows victory
Schoening91
But he kinda refuses to broaden his horizons and continues to just focus on finding strong monsters.
Man, who says that superhumans can't be relatable?
Schoening91 But he doesn't LIKE that stuff. If you don't like it, why get better at it?
That's what Mob Psycho 100 is about actually! Mob is the strongest psychic, virtually unbeatable, but instead of pursuing his psychic abilities and centring his life and meaning around that he decides to put his efforts into becoming well-liked, and getting in shape. Since it's by the same creator it's really likely the creator thought the same thing as you and wanted to explore that
Oriana Clark that sounds interesting I take a look thx
If u want to know what happen in season 2, just read the manga. You want spoilers?

He's still the same.
Perhaps philosophy of David Lynch? Cheers!
Watching Twin Peaks: The Return right now. :)
Wisecrack haha! Yes! You’ll love it, I’m certain.
This was interesting change of pace for wisecrack. I'd love to see more science epsiodes like this.
Love it! More science! More psychology! More Helen!
So no sex for him. He would kill all of them if he gets to excited.
Lethal boners.
That sounds like an awesome death metal band name.
Nah, he know how to control his strength
@@Weigazod yeah as evidenced from the distinction between normal punches and serious punches
The fact that he can eat with chopstick is the best example :)
that's what iv'e been thinking
So the next question is this: How do we find our Ikigai?
Zerpderp0 Try moving to another city.
David Ullman how that'll help😑
xavi k'han It will change everything.
Was anyone else half-expecting Austin?!?
Paradigm, nope. Why is he Wisecrack's "science correspondent?"
Yes, but only because SCIENCE was in all caps.
where the fuck is matpat
Good job guys! Awesome work Helen!
Thanks for the amazing video
Excellent video. Great job Helen!
goodjob helen
"Hey Wisecrack, A subscriber here"
"It's one-two-three-up-down"
This was great!
I love you as the voice of wisecrack's science expert! Hope to see you in more videos soon
Great quality vid, I don't mind the new host as long as you keep combining science or philosophy with these popular series/movies/other media and don't downgrade the quality
What does a being of infinite power lack? Limitation
Tim Hare is that a bad thing?
Kibate Do you know in one punch man universe every being has a limit specifically made for each person and if they go beyond they turn to monsters except for saitama he removed it.
Heres an analogy- Have you ever activated God Mode in a video game? After the initial excitement most people, grow bored and nihilistic with the lack of challenge
Kibate But we were talkin about limits and i just want to say that story detail cuz its cool.
The philosophy (and psychology?) of Wisecrack :-)
Hey Wisecrak can you do a philosophy of Jojos bizzare adventure? Btw I love your videos!
This is my first Wisecrack episode. I really like the announcers voices, that mixed with interesting psychological and biological reasoning made this a good first taste of this channel. Here's looking forward to more!
This video was amazing. Please continue with science of... sections. And please, keep Helen coming back :)
The whole "purpose in life" ideology really reminds me of Stain from My Hero Academia back when he was still a (*SPOILER) hero, which was seen on the spin-off of MHA.
P.S: The title of the spin-off is "Vigilante: My Hero Academia Illegals".
Cool vidoeo keep up the great content
Very Good. I enjoyed the presentation, narration and the insights provided...10 out of 10 would watch again!
I really like the addition of Helen. I think that it would be interesting to watch a video of Helen and Jared together but in opposites sides of an argument in a wisecrak edition style video.
Good, this!
Bring MOAR!!!
